Tyra ramp-up to full production progresses
Esbjerg, 19 December 2024 – The ramp-up of Tyra is progressing, with gas flow from three out of six fields already re-established. Due to operational challenges and weather-dependent activities, the ramp-up is, however, taking slightly longer than expected. Full production is now anticipated in the second half of January 2025.
Our teams are diligently working on ramping up production as wells are brought back on stream. As a result, we have been ensuring additional supply of gas to Denmark from the start of the winter season. However, due to minor operational occurrences and the impact of rough North Sea conditions on weather-dependent activities, we now expect to reach plateau production in the second half of January,
says Ole Hansen, Managing Director at TotalEnergies EP Denmark.
During this ramp-up process, gas flow from the Tyra wells and surrounding satellites is being re-established. Currently, gas from the Harald, Tyra East and Southeast wells is exported by the Tyra hub to Denmark and the Netherlands. The gas flow from Valdemar, Tyra West and Roar satellites will be re-established during the coming weeks subject to safe weather conditions.

Facts on the Tyra Redevelopment
- TotalEnergies is the operator of the Tyra field on behalf of DUC – a partnership between TotalEnergies (43.2%), BlueNord (36.8%) and Nordsøfonden (20%).
- Tyra is Denmark’s largest natural gas field and has been a center for processing and exporting more than 90% of the natural gas produced in the Danish North Sea before its redevelopment. This was necessary due to the field’s natural subsidence of the chalk reservoir after many years of production.
- The redevelopment of the Tyra field included three main elements: decommissioning and recycling of the old Tyra platforms; recycling and extending the current platform legs on six of the platforms with 13 meters, which will have new topsides; a completely new process module and a new accommodation platform.
- As one of the world’s most advanced natural gas facilities, Tyra II will secure continued production of natural gas with 30% less CO2 emissions compared to the former facilities and contribute to energy security and independence in Denmark and Europe through the export pipelines to Nybro and Den Helder.
